UNTITLED ("iNTERVIEW WITH A RUNNER"), BY KENDRICK LOO |
after Olena Kalytiak Davis
You say you are a runner? I pound the earth forwards and onwards. You say you do it solitary and alone? I do it solitary and alone. You say you craft your runs on a whim? I touch the compass and it spins endlessly. You say you give to the earth? I shock it in rhythmic heartbeats. More than the planets? Faster, quicker, in a hurry. And what of the cars? They drive me by. Is it quite lonely? Quite lonely. Is it most peaceful? Most quiet, most hymnal. Do the roads sing? Oh yes, they sing. Do you sing back to them? The steps I take pave my compositions. Is it melodious? In degrees, in part. Will you dream of running? Forever. The forests breathe around me. Will you return to your home? Never. You do not miss it? Those who run have no master. You see yourself elsewhere? The future belongs to other eyes. |
